What Is Your WHY?

Today let’s take a look at what fuels the fire… cause here’s the thing. If you don’t have a reason to do things why are you ever going to do them?

Let’s think about someone much like the average person who is perhaps a little out of shape, maybe they eat whatever they want and they don’t care about working out. Now that same person goes to the doctor’s office and the doctor tells them if they don’t change their eating and movement habits they will be dead soon. Typically what will happen is that a person will change their habits to preserve life.

Now I understand that is a life or death extreme example but it all comes down to a reason. For me, I attended University in 2016. I moved away from home to a new city to play college baseball. Now baseball was my reason for being there it certainly wasn’t to focus on school. If i could get a degree in skipping class and playing Super Mario I would have crushed it.

Fast forward to the end of my first full season of baseball. We found out that our program was folding. Because I was not all in on school I ended up moving back home and joining the workforce. Fast forward to today, I am back in school finishing up my university degree.

Now what happened? I found a WHY. In 2018 I never thought I would be back in school. Heck in 2022 I didn’t think so. But with my current job coaching baseball, I found myself pushing athletes to pursue their goals of playing college baseball. Well it never came up, I always felt weird telling kids to do this when I was just a dropout. Enter my WHY. Now I am back in school and crushing it thanks to the athletes I work with.

So… What is your WHY? Why do you play your sport? Why do you do what you do? Why do you get out of bed to be the best version of yourself day after day?

Think about it.

A WHY can make all the difference in being completely average or achieving things you never thought possible.
